Replace Rotted Door Frame Threshold

Mix polyester wood filler or bondo wood filler and press it into the recess with a putty knife.

If your threshold is in rough shape replace it. Measure the length width and thickness of the old threshold and have a replacement with a similar pro file on. Thresholds come in wood and metal both of which come with a rubber gasket for sealing out the cold. The sill is beveled on one side to drain water away from the house.

These thresholds wear out over time because of foot traffic and exposure to the weather. Remove the old door sill from beneath the door frame. Measure between the outside edges of the door casing. Remove the screws holding the metal threshold in place.
