Use your pencil to mark the location of the screws in the jamb.
Replace door hinges without removing door.
Leave the hinges on the door.
Then remove the hinge pins and lift the existing door out of the doorframe.
Mark and trim the new door.
Do the same with the location of the hinge on the door.
Not only do i have a door that actually stays open now i also have chrome hardware instead of the gold.
Measure the existing door and doorframe.
Most new doors are sold in a pre hung format.
Install the new door hinge and secure all six or eight screws.
We used a table saw but a circular saw will also do the job.
Repeat process for hinge 3.
Remove the hinges when you re done marking.
This took me about 10 minutes.
Place the door with the exterior side down across two sawhorses.
This method allows you to replace each of the door hinges without removing the door from the door frame which makes this a very easy one person job.
Replace the hinge back in the jamb where you cut the mortise.
I ll be replacing all the hardware in the house.
Use a cordless gun to unscrew the hinges from the jamb.
The hinges are installed at the factory when the door is assembled.
If needed mark and carefully trim the bottom of the new door to fit the existing doorframe.
Repeat process for hinge 2.
Remove the old door from the jamb.
You don t need to take the whole door down just remove one hinge and replace it with a new one then do the next one and finally swap out the final one.
Replacing exising hinges is one possibility and installing hinges on a replacement door slab is a different job.
