Cut the spare piece of vinyl along the marks using straight tin snips.

Pull siding away from house and cut through the bottom edge with aviation snips. Holes dents and other damage to siding can usually be fixed quickly and inexpensively. Cut off any overhanging vinyl. Use framing square and utility knife to cut through face of siding.

Purchase a siding removal tool. Protect sound siding with a scrap piece of 1 4 in. Push up firmly on the bottom of the piece of siding to reconnect the top lip of the loose piece of siding under the bottom lip of the piece of siding above the original loose piece. Be careful because older siding can become brittle.

Pop the bottom lip of the original loose piece of siding back over top the piece of siding below it with the hook tool. Measure and mark a point 2 inches 5 1 cm away from each side of the removed segment. These hooks can be found in most home improvement or hardware stores. Hold the removed segment up to a spare piece of vinyl siding.

At the same time use your hand to push the panel onto the upper locking edge of the panel beneath it. The hook on the tool grabs the locking edge at the bottom of each panel. These tools are inexpensive and can be used to fix loose vinyl siding or to remove siding panels completely. After you remove the rotted courses use a small hacksaw to cut any protruding nail shanks or if you have a very strong grip use a good pair of wire cutters.

Cut piece of faded siding from an inconspicuous spot to replace the damaged section. First remove the corner piece then slide the zip tool under the siding and loosen it up. A new generation of wood fillers hardeners and epoxies fill holes and firm up soft spots so they are as strong as the original wood.
