When window putty ages it becomes hard and difficult to remove by scraping.
Removing window glazing tape.
When glazing a window one of the first things you ll need to do is remove any old glazing that s chipped or damaged.
Wear eye protection and cut proof gloves.
Remove the vinyl glazing strips from the vinyl frame.
Simply attach strips of painter s tape along both edges of the seam approximately 1 8 away from the seam itself.
Use the flat edge of a screwdriver or a putty knife to gently.
Hold the hairdryer a few inches away from the tape and let the hot air blow over it focusing on the edges and corners.
Because window putty consists of linseed oil and clay this technique uses a mixture of linseed oil and bleach to break.
The final steps is to run a bead of caulk on the top of the window frame and slightly around the corners.
This will cause the glue to soften.
Cut away the old.
If you ve been trying to remove window glazing with various mechanical methods of scraping and grinding stop.
Mix hot water with a squirt of liquid dish soap.
