When repairing or replacing a doorknob lever you need to remove the faceplate also called a trim plate or rosette to gain access to the internal latch and mounting components. Straighten a paper clip and insert it into the hole. Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware. Remove the two screws on the inside door knob faceplate using a phillips head screwdriver.

With the plate removed you can now pull the latch mechanism through the side of the door. The screws secure the knobs together to the door. Diy remove replace door s handle with hidden screws. Look on the neck of the inner doorknob for a slot or hole between the back of the doorknob and the door.

Remove a kwikset knob lock set with no screws and no detent the secret catch. Remove the handle from the outer side of the door and set it aside. I had to fix it. Take out the screws then carefully pry off the plate with a flat head screwdriver.
